COVID-19 Golf events during the pandemic have become ever more popular in Indonesia
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a few new trends in tourism. One of them is that tourists will pay more attention to health and safety measures in every activity. This is resulting outdoor activities and sport tourism, especially cycling, running, and golf, are getting more popular in Indonesia, especially among young people.

With the increasing interest of youth players in golf, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy had supported two innovative golf tournaments, which are held for the first time in Indonesia. The two tournaments are Indonesia Golf Triathlon and Indonesia Speed ​​Golf.

The Indonesia Golf Triathlon Series is a competition combining cycling, running, and golf. The first Indonesia Golf Triathlon held on July 2020 at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club, which was then followed by a second event in the same year in November at Sentul Highland Golf Club. The third event was held on June 2021 at Imperial Golf Klub.

Other than Indonesia Golf Triathlon Series, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also supported Indonesia Speed ​​Golf, which is also the first kind of tournament ever held in Indonesia. Speed golf is game combining golf and running, in which the score is counted by strokes played and the time taken to complete the round. Both tournaments received positive responses from participants.

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has issued a guideline based on CHSE (cleanliness, health, safety, and sustainable environment) for organizing golf event in pandemic to minimize the risk of transmission of Covid-19. Through these two tournaments as pilot projects, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy had the opportunity to implement CHSE guideline in organizing sports activities (events) as part of the “InDOnesia Care” (I Do Care) campaign.

This sport events are expected to boost optimism for events in the ‘new-normal’ by adapting to new habits, both for participant and event organizers, also to increase the excitement and interest of domestic tourists to return to participate in sporting events with the implementation of strict health protocols.
